Poker is the worlds most famous card game, which was invented in the 15th century. Originally known as “Pochen” in Germany, Poker became popular in France as “Poque” and made it’s way to North America where it bacame even more popular.

There are many different versions of poker, which differ in the number of rounds played as well as the number of cards they are played with.Generally at all poker versions there are rounds of dealing cards and alternating betrounds.

You win a poker game if you have the best hand at the end or if all other players decided to fold.
Poker is divided into two main versions:

• Draw- or Stud Poker:

At the beginning of the poker game, each player has to make a minimum stake (ante), which has to be put in the pot.

• Hold’em Poker, Omaha:

At the beginning of the poker game, only particular players have to deposit the minimum stake (blind). The player sitting left to the dealer has to make the small blind, an his seatmate has to deposit the big blind in the pot, which has two times the value of the small blind. All other players do not have to make any deposits before the cards get dealed.

At poker tournaments, the stakes get increased by and by.
During the bet rounds we distinguish between:

• no limit: players can decide their stakes on their own
• pot limit: the maximum stake is limited by the total sum in the pot
• spread limit: stakes only can move in a range
• split limit: minimum stakes increase with the number of betrounds played.
